Struggling with daily meditation? Try our six steps to success..
1. Remember your ‘WHY’
‘Why’ do you want to meditate each day? What are the benefits you will receive? Write a list of all of the benefits (physiological, emotional, mental, social, psychological) you receive, or will receive, when you meditate daily and place it somewhere in your home where you will be reminded of your ‘why’!
2. Find the right teacher
Attending a Meditation group or course facilitated by a teacher that you can relate to really helps. Find a Meditation Teacher that inspires you and supports you on your own personal Meditation journey.
3. Form a plan
Choose the Meditation techniques and duration you are going to use for the coming week and complete a written or digital plan. Keep your plan in an easily accessible place so you are reminded to stick to it!
4. Create a routine
Set a Meditation routine, just like a routine to brush your teeth. Choose to meditate at the same TIME each day for a minimum of 21 days and form that positive habit!
5. Make it achievable
When starting out, or getting back into it, just commit to a few minutes of Meditation. Even three minutes of mindful breathing is better than none! Once your habit is formed, then you’re likely to naturally want to extend the duration of your Meditation.
6. Make it accessible
Create a physical space that is designed for your Meditation practice and make it a permanent fixture in your household. There’s nothing worse than having to ‘set up’ each time you meditate. This feels like a hassle and causes resistance to actually meditating! Keep your meditation chair, stool or cushion in your meditation space and make it attractive, nurturing and even sacred. You might like to have a candle, matches, music and a warm blanket close by.
