Community work placement graduate Alison Crofton

Alison – Work Placement At Mareeba Aged Care

This week we introduce you to Alison! She is an ACMM graduate who has recently completed our Meditation and Mindfulness Community Work Placement (CWP) program. For her placement, she ran a 6-week meditation program for Mareeba Aged Care in Northern NSW.

The Meditation and Mindfulness Community Work Placement program provides a 6-week work placement to graduates supporting vulnerable people in the community. This does wonders for a graduate’s confidence and growth. It also supports the wellbeing of people who would not otherwise be able to access meditation and mindfulness training.

Community Work Placement Location: Mareeba Aged Care

Mareeba Aged Care provides quality care, in a safe and nurturing environment for residents. The facilities include aged care, accommodation, respite care, allied health services, as well as 24-hour nursing support and incredible activities like our meditation and mindfulness sessions. The staff at Mareeba were supportive of the program from the very outset. Alison created a supportive and safe environment for sharing and exploring meditation, with participants enthusiastically sharing and participating.

When we asked Alison about her experience she said:

“When I first came across the Community Work Placement Program I knew it was exactly the program for me. I was really excited and signed up straight away. Having a pre-made program to use as a foundation and a coach to guide and support me along the way allowed for great success and deep learning. It was an incredible experience, which boosted my confidence. After completing the program, I was left feeling very capable and inspired to facilitate future meditation groups. It was a genuinely rich experience being able to share the tools of meditation and mindfulness with residents at an aged care facility.”

The feedback from staff at Mareeba Aged Care has been really positive. Stating:

“It was great to see residents returning to each session and growing in confidence, expressing themselves in regards to their own personal journey and to observe others joining in at various sessions.”
